Brian Shaw was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 24th overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft. During his career, he played for the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers, among other teams. He also had stints with Il Messaggero Roma in Italy.
During his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers, he achieved three NBA titles (2000), 2001, and 2002) and was a key player in the NBA Finals in 2000 and 2001.
In addition to his successes as a member of the club, Brian Shaw also made a lasting impression on the league as an individual. He won a gold medal with the US national team in the 1986 FIBA World Championship and set an NBA record with 10 three-pointers in a single game. Shaw later earned the admiration of other coaches and the media when he was hired as an assistant coach by the Indiana Pacers in 2011. Later, he was given the position of associate head coach.
Shaw joined the Denver Nuggets as head coach in 2014, but he was sacked in March 2015 following a difficult tenure. In 2016, Shaw rejoined the Lakers as an associate head coach. He took over as the G League Ignite’s first head coach in 2020, leading the team to an 8–8 record and a postseason berth before he resigned. Shaw has been an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers since September 2021.
