However, it was disclosed last week by Sky Germany, via Sport Witness, that former Middlesbrough star Pogatetz will be on Glasner’s coaching staff, while The Athletic’s Raphael Honigstein has verified that the ex-Austria international will function as a go-between for the incoming manager and the players.
When Pogatetz was signed by Steve McClaren at the Riverside Stadium in 2005 for an alleged £1.8 million, he made his first trip to England. He joined West Ham United after five years and 123 appearances, and he played for several different teams until hanging up his boots and entering the coaching ranks in 2019. He’s returned to London after this journey.
When Pogatetz played for Middlesbrough, he was known for being a bit of a fiery character on the field. He went by the nickname “Mad Pog” and once provoked the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson to lose his cool when he tackled Manchester United’s Rodrigo Possebon in an EFL Cup match back in 2008.
