This sparked a debate among fans as to whether or not they should have initiated the deal. Most fans seemed to be against it for a number of reasons. The consensus arguments against the trade mainly fell into three categories: 1. He’s not good enough to justify 17 and Zay Jones. 2. The deal is going well, but paying him is a problem. 3. Recipient Only Draft 17. Personally disagree with all three of these opinions.

After losing Calvin Ridley to the Tennessee Titans, the Jaguars found themselves wearing their own metaphorical pants. Their plan seemed so smart until the deadline came and the Titans offered Ridley a contract he couldn’t refuse. Signing Gabe Davis as a free agent is a good fit for the team. I love his ability to bring the defense to the top. His game speed is much better than Jones and I look forward to Trevor finally having a weapon that can stay several steps behind the defense. He also has great size as a red zone target at 6’2″ and was even a great shuffle drill for Josh Allen. That said, it’s still a niche role.

He’s not a true X receiver in the NFL, and that’s what this offense needs. The Jaguars can’t afford to start the 2024 season with a starting lineup of Gabe Davis, Zay Jones and Christian Kirk. Enter Brandon Aiyuk. He’s the best player in this league with the salary cap to be figured out later, and he’s a much safer bet than the April 17 pick..
