The statue honoring his basketball accomplishments was designed with significant input from his wife, Vanessa. It took a while, but Bryant’s immortality outside of the arena—which he contributed to building with his play on the court—has finally arrived. Along the way, he left the Lakers with many memories and five NBA championships. For the Lakers organization, Bryant meant the world, and this is just another way to honor his amazing achievements.
The 18-time All-Star’s legacy will go on forever, and his place in history is assured. Statues are awarded only to actual greats, and Bryant is immortalized as a very unique player. It is impossible to overestimate his influence on basketball, and the entire world was saddened by the loss of this legendary player. Though we shall always mourn him, his memory will endure forever.
A modest gathering of individuals attended a ceremony to unveil the statue. Bryant’s friends and family traveled to witness it become formally recorded in history. On Friday, fans will be able to see the statue. Bryant joins a number of other Laker icons who have statues located around Star Plaza. Outside the arena are sculptures of Elgin Baylor, Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jerry West, and announcer Chick Hearn.
