UPDATE: GREEN BAY PACKERS HAVE FINALLY SIGNED IN A NEW PLAYER…….
The Green Bay Packers’ season is officially over, but there have been a number of actions taken with the intention of raising the group’s caliber in the upcoming weeks and months. The appointment of Jeff Hafley as defensive coordinator is one of these actions.
The Packers grabbed attention the previous season when the youngest team in the league made it to the postseason before the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers team eliminated them. Following Aaron Rodgers’ trade, Jordan Love will start at quarterback for the team this season.
It was decided to recruit Jeff Hafley in order to achieve that improvement goal. In his monthly message, CEO and president of the Green Bay Packers, Mark Murphy, explains the reasoning for that choice.
Although I, Brian Gutekunst, and other people provided feedback to Matt LaFleur, he has complete authority over his coaching staff and made the ultimate call. The way Matt carried out the search really pleased me. Jeff was the most successful applicant out of all the ones we interviewed in-person and over Zoom. His work at Boston College and in the NFL was outstanding.
Despite never having worked as coaches, Matt and Jeff have a large number of mutual connections who have positive things to say about Jeff. In addition, my roommate on the Redskins, Pete Cronan, who graduated from Boston College and has been the football team’s longstanding radio voice, was really impressed with Jeff’s work at Boston College.
