Sam Lammers says he didn’t have to leave Ibrox after the Rangers left during the January transfer window.

Although Sam Lammer claims he wasn’t forced to leave Rangers this month, he believes FC Utrecht’s intentions were “very, very important” in his decision.

After leaving Atalanta in the summer, the forward has had a difficult time adjusting to life at Ibrox. He will now spend the second half of the season on loan in the Eredivisie, where he has made it clear that he has high expectations for himself.

The 26-year-old stated that his “fascination” is scoring goals. He didn’t score enough while wearing a Rangers uniform, managing just two goals in 31 games overall under Micheal Beale and Philippe Clement. As a result, it’s possible that his return to the Netherlands is a step toward a permanent departure.

Lammers stated, according to Football Scotland (January 14), “I really didn’t have to leave Rangers, which is a fantastic club, of course. However, it made me stop and consider how much manager Ron Jans and technical director Jordy Zuidam wanted to bring me to Utrecht during our meetings. That meant a great deal to me, and I’m genuinely thrilled to be here.

It was unclear whether I would play a significant role in the second half of the season at Rangers. That’s why I went for Utrecht, a team that has always caught my eye. We have a lot of talented players on this team, so I think the second half of the season will be fantastic.

“The No. 9 jersey I was handed belongs to the striker, right? Goal scoring is a wonderful process. I used to become really into Zinedine Zidane and Dennis Bergkamp as kids, even though they were more No. 10s than pure strikers. The DVDs I possessed of them allowed me to view them indefinitely.

However, I was fascinated by score. And things remain that way. I can play several roles, but I genuinely feel like a No. 9. I am really anticipating my adventure in Utrecht. I believe that the club can only go up, and I would like to help with that. I have high standards for myself.

The same idea is probably going through the minds of all Rangers fans in response to Lammers’ remarks following his return to the Eredivisie following a very disappointing stint in the SPFL.

Despite having played a significant role this season, there was very little indication of the Dutchman’s fixation with scoring—aside from an obviously outstanding goal against Dundee.

Additionally, it is evident from his 11 goals in the last four and a half seasons that he hasn’t supported it, which is why Beale’s summer pursuit of him was unexpected. For Gers supporters, his failure to live up to that faith has been extremely disheartening.
