Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster recently celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary and are now discussing the keys to their successful marriage. In a joint interview with HELLO! magazine, the 79-year-old rock icon and 53-year-old model, who married in June 2007, discussed how they prioritise spending quality time together and how they handle disagreements. “We love life and make date nights for one another, among touring and family time,” Stewart told reporters.

We listen to each other and try to handle all of our conflicts, or dirty laundry, as Penny puts it, straight away and before we go to bed,” the Grammy Award winner continued. Lancaster told the outlet that having a “healthy attraction” to each other was a crucial aspect of their relationship. “Rod and I can have dinner in a crowded room or just the two of us – we always have eyes for each other,” remarked the British actress and model. “There’s this look, this connection, this message without words.”

Stewart and Lancaster have two sons: Alastair Wallace (18), and Aiden Patrick (13). Stewart had six children by the time the couple married. Stewart and his ex-girlfriend Susannah Boffey have one daughter, Sarah Streeter, who is 60 years old. Sarah was raised by adoptive parents and only connected with her father as an adult. The rock musician married his first wife, Alana Stewart, in April 1979, and their daughter Kimberly, 44, was born in August of the same year. The former couple separated in 1984, and they also had a 43-year-old son named Sean. Stewart and model Kelly Emberg have a 36-year-old daughter named Ruby. The couple was together for seven years until calling it quits in 1990. Stewart and Rachel Hunter got married in December 1990. The artist and the model shared.

Lancaster told HELLO! about how she bonded with her stepchildren after she started dating Stewart in 1999. “I knew that I had to be honest with them, too, so that they would accept me,” she told me. “I couldn’t pretend to please everyone, so I was true to myself. It took time, but they eventually grew to trust me.” Lancaster went on to remark that their large blended family enjoys getting together on important occasions. In June, the pair went to Dubrovnik, Croatia, for Liam’s wedding. Stewart’s other seven children and Hunter also attended the wedding. “We like to take every opportunity to bring the family, children, and grandchildren together,” Lancaster told me. “A portion of the family resides in America.
