Alabama has suspended jalen Milroe because he ….

Caleb Downs, a safety for Alabama, has apparently decided on his next team. The Ohio State commit is the Crimson Tide star, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

With the resignation of famous Alabama coach Nick Saban, Downs became maybe the largest non-quarterback to enter the transfer channel. The true freshman made an instant impression on the Crimson Tide team, which experienced highs and lows during the previous campaign.

It was predicted that Downs would sign with Georgia, an SEC rival of Alabama, prior to committing to Ohio State. Travaris Robinson, the defensive backs coach for the Downs, was just hired by Georgia to serve as the team’s co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.

With 107 total tackles, the 19-year-old safety led Alabama and more than fifty percent more than Deontae Lawson, who finished second with 67. With two interceptions, Downs was second on the squad as well.

The news that Downs played a pivotal role in Alabama’s College Football Playoff loss to Michigan earlier this month will excite Ohio State supporters. With eight tackles, Downs led his squad. He also came dangerously close to starting the game by intercepting Wolverines quarterback JJ McCarthy, but it was wiped out.

Downs is by no means the first elite player to have recently deserted Alabama for a different program. With Saban’s retirement, the Crimson Tide lost a number of elite players and recruits.
