The forty-year-old was disappointing in his early exit from the Welsh Open last week, and he also had a terrible start to his opening round match this week in Telford against Barry Hawkins.
The Jester from Leicester won the match on the black on Thursday night, showing off his ridiculously impressive play with breaks of 65, 91, 81, 105, and 59.
O’Sullivan might not have been at his best, but Selby dominated the table with a masterful display of scoring, so he didn’t really have a chance to be.

But following the break, he easily defeated the Hawk and then dominated the Rocket in a manner akin to that.
“It is a great victory to beat Ronnie in any tournament, regardless of the score.” Selby stated on ITV4 that “to beat him in the way I did, the way I scored, safety was good, long game was good.”
‘Extremely happy. Towards the end of the Hawkins game, I felt like I had gained some confidence. I was getting much better at striking the ball, seeing the shots, and maintaining a little more optimism. I just succeeded in maintaining that throughout the game today.

Selby, who has yet to claim a championship this season, acknowledges that he frequently makes ineffective adjustments to his technique when he is having trouble getting results.
Now that he has shown he is doing admirably, the four-time world champion thinks the tweaking will stop.
