In his eight-year career, the right fielder has blasted 257 home runs, all while playing for the New York Yankees. He broke the American League record in 2022 by hitting deep 62 times, surpassing Roger Maris’ mark of 61 in 1961 for the Yankees. In 2017, he established the then-MLB record for a rookie with 52 home runs (since broken by Pete Alonso in 2019).
But Judge’s skill set goes beyond only his enormous power, which sets him apart from the majority of major league players. Aaron Boone, manager of the Yankees, clarified what else makes Judge a major player in baseball.
“He simply adores the game,” Boone stated to Heavy.com. “He could definitely succeed based just on talent, but in my opinion, true greatness requires a deep passion for the game.” His passion for the game is evident every day.
Judge grew raised in Linden, California, and had a love affair from an early age. After attending Fresno State, he took that love with him when he was taken by the Yankees in the first round of the amateur draft in 2013.
His 52 home run season, which won him the AL Rookie of the Year award, heralded his arrival, and following his 62 longball season, he was elected the AL MVP. In addition, Judge has been chosen for five All-Star Games and has three Silver Slugger honors.
