On a tiebreaker, DeMeco Ryans is not awarded NFL Coach of the Year.

DeMeco Ryans of the Houston Texans was one vote away from winning The Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year Award for the 2023 campaign.

The former Alabama All-American and Kevin Stefanski of the Cleveland Browns concluded with 165 points after voting by 50 members of the AP media panel. Votes for first place were for five points, those for second place were worth three points, and votes for third place were worth one point.
With the most first-place votes, Stefanski prevailed in the tiebreaker.

The other first-place votes went to Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers and Dan Campbell of the Detroit Lions, with three each; John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens received two; and Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams received one.

Ryans guided Houston to an AFC South championship, a seven-win increase, and a first-round playoff victory in his debut season as head coach.

Ryans was named the 2023 NFL Coach of the Year by Pro Football Writers of America last week.
