When news broke that Ken Dorsey will be the next offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, some of their supporters weren’t overly happy.
Former Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and current Houston Texans quarterback coach Jerrod Johnson were two of the prominent candidates the Browns considered to replace Alex Van Pelt.
They decided on Dorsey instead, and the fact that he was dismissed by the Buffalo Bills in the middle of the season before they were able to turn the campaign around caused some people to question their choice due to recency bias.
He helped Cam Newton have a breakout season as the MVP, and he and Brian Dabol were largely to blame for Josh Allen’s development into a top-tier quarterback.
Ultimately, it is imperative for the Browns to maximize the potential of their $230 million quarterback.
It seemed dubious at the time to trade so many assets for Watson and then to completely commit to him by offering him a huge contract extension that was guaranteed even though he had been out of the game for so long. Things don’t appear any better today.
