Steve Kerr said he thinks the competition is completely different when it comes to comparing the current Team USA and the legendary 1992 Dream Team.
Ahead of the Team USA training camp in Las Vegas, the national team head coach, Steve Kerr, shared his thoughts on the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics campaign.
One of the topics that Kerr covered was comparing the current Team USA roster to the legendary 1992 Dream Team.
The Serbian national team’s head coach, Svetislav Pasic, revealed that he thinks that the current Team USA roster is better than the legendary 1992 Dream Team.
Pasic was the head coach of Germany during the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Interestingly, the Germans faced the Dream Team in the Group stage and lost the game 68-111.
“This American team, although we don’t focus on them [yet] nor will I discuss [about it] with the players, is better than the original Dream Team from 1992,” Mozart Sport quoted Pasic during his press conference on Monday. “I was there with the Germans, and at that time, we thought there were no better players. This team that will appear in Paris will be stronger than the Dream Team.”
Kerr gave his perspective on whether he agrees with Pesic’s statement.
“I think from the standpoint of career achievement, this team is probably as decorated as any,” Kerr said about the current Team USA team in the press conference Basket News attended. “Since the 1992 Dream Team, the difference is in 1992, the world wasn’t anywhere close to as good as it is now in terms of basketball popularity. Just globalization of the game.”
