Ivan Toney is interested in a move to Chelsea when the transfer window opens after he was named as a potential transfer target.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Blues see Toney, 28, as an attainable signing due to his price tag and could be set to make their move.

Football Insider revealed on 10 May that Brentford would likely accept an offer of £50million for the striker’s services this summer.

Victor Osimhen has also been named as Chelsea’s dream striker target this summer, but they will likely be priced out of a deal by the “huge” fee placed on his head.

Toney, meanwhile, has been linked with a move to London rivals Tottenham, as revealed by Football Insider, but Chelsea could look to jump ahead of the queue.

Toney joined Brentford for just £5million in 2020 before helping them to achieve promotion and establish themselves in the Premier League.

With 141 Brentford appearances, in which he has scored 72 goals, the striker has gained a long list of admirers, largely due to his 20-goal Premier League season in 2022-23.

Last time out, the striker missed half of the season with a ban after breaching the FA’s betting rules, and returned in January to score four goals in 17 league appearances.

His ability to hold up play and bring teammates into the game, as well as scoring plenty of goals himself, have put clubs on red alert with a move on the cards in the upcoming transfer window.

Chelsea are looking to sign an out-and-out striker after Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku endured turbulent seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Toney has emerged at the top of Chelsea’s list of options to strengthen the attacking options at Stamford Bridge in search of more consistency.

In other news, Chelsea are in advanced talks over a controversial £40million deal.
