Selby won quickly, dispatching O’Sullivan in less than two hours to secure his place in the semifinals.
In an incredible effort, Selby was assisted by breaks of 65, 91, 81, 105, and 59. O’Sullivan was unable to get any momentum in the match.
Referee Desislava Bozhilova was meant to alert the Rocket after two misses, but she neglected to do so. Normally, that would result in the Rocket losing the frame.
Selby had all the momentum for the rest of the match, capitalizing on his opportunities and sealing the victory in a closer final frame.
It’s a tremendous scoreline to beat Ronnie in any competition, and I’m really happy with the way I defeated him. Selby stated on ITV4 that “it was pretty much flawless.”
“It is a huge game and if you can’t get up for matches like that, you might as well put your cue away.”I was sure I could win since, in most cases, the score will go the other way if you don’t.
The most important thing for me is that, although I attempt to change things when I don’t win, these two performances have shown me that, regardless of the outcome, I should keep doing what I am doing.
