DONE DEAL: Devin Williams deal package from the Phillies that might really work if the ……….
The Philadelphia Phillies are still being discussed as a destination for available free agents and as a trade suitor for certain players, even though they haven’t made any roster changes this offseason. Shortly after signing former Phillie Rhys Hoskins, the Milwaukee Brewers suddenly dealt Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles.
Willy Adames, a shortstop, and Devin Williams, a closer, are two of the team’s finest players; trade rumors have indicated that Milwaukee may be rebuilding.
Rumor has it that the Phillies are interested in Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase. Milwaukee’s closer is thought to be headed for Philadelphia as well. José Alvarado, who has seven years of experience but has only had 45 save opportunities, is anticipated to be Philadelphia’s current closer.
Williams made 15 of 17 save attempts in 2022 and 36 of 40 last season while playing for the Brewers. With a 1.53 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 37.7 percent strikeout rate, he concluded the season. Should manager Rob Thomson decide to deploy Alvarado and Soto in the seventh or eighth inning, the Phillies would have another way to end games if they were to acquire him.
Unlike Soto and Alvarado, who are both left-handed pitchers, the Milwaukee closer is a right-hand thrower, providing Philly with options that can be used in both left- and right-handed pitching configurations. Who among the Phillies could pique the attention of the Brewers in a Williams trade if they are searching for prospects?
