JUST NOW: Lions Sign a Super Bowl player worth $70 million who is replacing ……….

Because of the veterans on their roster, the Detroit Lions have some big-game experience even if the club has never made it to the Super Bowl. With running back Jake Funk on their practice squad, the Lions suddenly have another player with Super Bowl experience.

On January 23, the Lions declared that Funk and offensive tackle Matt Farniok had been added to their practice squad. In tandem, the Lions put running back Jermar Jefferson on the practice squad/injured list and dismissed linebacker Raymond Johnson.

Over his three-year NFL career, Funk has participated in 20 games. Ten of those games were played with the Los Angeles Rams during their Super Bowl victory in 2021.

Funk did not participate in the Super Bowl, but in Los Angeles’ other three postseason games in 2021–2022 he was a member of the special teams.

This past season, the 26-year-old running back appeared in four games for the Indianapolis Colts.

2023 saw Farniok make no appearances in any games. However, he appeared in 17 games with the Dallas Cowboys in 2021–2022.

Detroit’s backfield, which struggled with injuries early in the season, will gain depth from Funk. But since the end of October, neither David Montgomery nor Jahmyr Gibbs have missed a game.
