New snooker ball introduced worth 20 points at tournament featuring Ronnie O’Sullivan due to …..
The inaugural ‘Riyadh Season gold ball’ will be played at the Riyadh Season World Masters of Snooker in March. If a player pots it, it will be worth 20 points.
You are not, however, permitted to pot the gold ball until you have finished a maximum break of 147, according to an additional rule.
Whether the golden ball will remain on the table the entire time, a glittering monument to its own prominence in comparison to the conventional snooker rules, is currently unknown.
We also don’t know if hitting the golden ball or inadvertently potting it during the entire game will result in any penalties.
If not, the ball may be kept off the table until a player finishes a maximum break, at which point it may be placed on the table to provide the player an opportunity to pot it and get 20 points.
Either way, it will just sit there like a glittering golden irritation that you can’t possibly play because it’s too cool.
Fans expressed disapproval of the rule change as “gimmicky” and expressed a desire to “stop f**king around with sports” that are currently perfectly functional.
It doesn’t seem like a popular alteration, as someone else commented,’snooker has s**t the bed’.
When a fellow billiards enthusiast brought up the issue, they were left wondering, “What’s the point?” as you can only pot the gold ball if you have already won the frame and achieved a maximum break.
Some expressed regret that snooker was “selling its soul,” and many expressed their desire for Jasper Carrott to be engaged in some capacity.
