One could argue that right-back should be Leeds’ top priority right now—especially considering how many names have been linked—after the team lost both Luke Ayling and Djed Spence.
Ben Johnson, Calvin Ramsay, Connor Roberts, and Neco Williams are all linked to Leeds, but a deal is apparently improbable.
If Leeds can convince West Ham to allow Johnson to leave on loan for a low cost, they may be ready to move fast on a deal, according to writer Ben Jacobs, who was speaking to Give Me Sport.
He said: “Ben Johnson is the other one on the list. So one of those two is possible. And again, Ben Johnson hasn’t seen that many minutes. He’s out of contract in the summer. But Leeds are in favour, I’m told, of not waiting until the summer, they want to move now.
“They would take Ben Johnson on a loan. So it’s just about whether or not they can agree terms because West Ham would want a fee, even though the player’s contract is running down.
“Thus, I believe Leeds would act quickly if they were able to move for Johnson and obtain a cheap price, or if they could convince West Ham to waive their charge. However, there are a few items up for negotiation to make that one work.
Johnson’s contract with West Ham expires in the summer, and he has turned down two new offers. However, if game time is guaranteed, negotiations may resume in the upcoming weeks.
On the other hand, it’s also said that Leeds might borrow him from West Ham provided a loan fee is covered.
However, Jacobs’ most recent post seems to indicate that the two teams will need to reach a compromise, and Leeds might be able to bring him to Elland Road if that does happen.
