The Cleveland Browns made some big changes to their offensive coaching staff this week, and tight ends coordinator/running backs coach Stump Mitchell hit on the change.Cleveland fired Mitchell and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt and decided not to keep tight ends coach T.C. McCartney on Wednesday, Jan. 17, by Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.

Mitchell then spoke with players he coached along the way, including those who remained on the roster.I want to express my sincere thanks to the players and players who put on the Browns helmet and gave it their all to succeed on game day.

I am dedicated to maximizing your hard work and talents and it has been a rewarding journey. The Browns organization played a key role, in my opinion, in bringing the Bill Willis Diversity Coaching Scholarship into their fold. In the past three years, the program offered opportunities to three young black coaches, starting with Ashton Grant, followed by Israel Woolfork, now quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, and Nemo Washington.Above all, I am deeply grateful for my family’s unwavering support and love for the dedicated and hardworking Ohio fans, especially the Browns Backers. Your support is truly appreciated. I am looking forward to the next stage of my coaching career.

According to Pro Football Reference, Mitchell played 10 years in the NFL as quarterback with the Cardinals from 1981 to 1989, initially eight seasons with St. Louis and then the last two seasons in Phoenix..

He has two stints as a coach in the NFL, including nine years with the Seattle Seahawks, where he began that phase of his career in 1999. Mitchell then spent two years with the franchise, now known as the Washington Commanders, according to Pro Football. History .

He was out of professional football for three seasons before becoming the caretaker coach of the Arizona Cardinals in 2013. Mitchell spent three seasons in the desert before taking the same position with the New York Jets. He spent 2017-18 in New York, joined the Browns as running backs coach/running games coordinator in 2019 and remained in Cleveland until the team released him on Wednesday..
