This game will mark the eighth postseason meeting between the two teams, a record set by the NFL. San Francisco has won the last four postseason meetings, and now owns a 5-4 record in the rivalry. The Niners defeated Green Bay 13–10 in the Divisional Round at Lambeau Field in 2022, the most recent game.

By winning their final three games to finish 9-8 in the regular season and ensuring that the nine teams they defeated had a higher win-loss record than the nine teams the Seattle Seahawks defeated in the 2023 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers qualified for the NFC playoffs as the last wild-card qualifier.
With the highest-scoring offense in the NFL with a 12-5 record, the Dallas Cowboys won the NFC East and were awarded the No. 2 seed in the conference playoffs.
All of that was for nothing on Sunday, as the Packers won 48-32 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, against the Cowboys in a first-round playoff game. Before Dallas scored two touchdowns and two 2-point conversions in the last six minutes of play, Green Bay had already scored 27 points and had a 32-point advantage.
