After their team’s first playoff victory in thirty-two years, Lions fans cry.
The last time the Detroit Lions won a postseason game was all the way back in 1992, before Sunday night. With a dramatic 24-23 victory over Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams at home in an NFC Wild Card game, Detroit finally put an end to what seemed like an interminable drought. The game also left countless fans of the franchise feeling tremendously emotional.
As Lions supporters began to realize that Detroit was going to defeat the Rams, several of them broke down in tears. The Lions defeated the Rams, who were led by Detroit’s previous great signal-caller, to win the 2023 NFL season and stay alive and in the running for the Super Bowl. This came after a string of years marked primarily by mediocrity.
Jared Goff had an effective effort versus the Rams, as he went 22/27 for 277 passing yards and a score. Despite losing 22 yards after being sacked three times, he did not turn the ball over. Los Angeles’ offense was utterly destroyed by Detroit’s defense, especially in the red zone, where the Rams were 0/3 inside the 20-yard line.
The Lions still have a difficult playoff assignment ahead of them, so their work is not finished. That being said, Detroit fans have earned every right to revel after Sunday’s win. They had to endure terrible seasons and a protracted wait for this before they could experience another postseason victory. Good night, country of Lions.
