Montrose 9-0 Celtic FC Women: Onward, Rangers!

Shen Menglu scored the first goal of the match in just four minutes with an incredible strike into the upper corner of the net. We were driven forward by the early lead, and soon Amy Gallacher was passed in behind the Montrose defence. To double our lead, the forward wrapped the ball around the goalie and placed it into an empty net.

Tiree Burchill scored her first goal of the afternoon with 23 minutes remaining. Burchill was in position to knock the ball into the net after Caitlin Hayes’s exquisite cross to the back post found him. A few minutes later, she came dangerously close to scoring when her shot struck the crossbar.

When the second half began, she would put on her brace. Burchill scored the fourth goal for the Celts when he headed a precise cross from Gallacher beyond the goalkeeper and toward the back post.

After a corner, the ball landed to Colette Cavanagh, who was the next to get a point. She hit the back of the net with a forceful blow that came from the boundary of the space. Kelly Clark knocked home a free kick to the front post, giving the captain her second goal as well.

Gallacher completed her brace with 13 minutes remaining when she snuck a cross from Cavanagh into the bottom corner. After the goal, Celtic supporters celebrated even more when Lucy Ashworth-Clifford made her comeback to the field after more than a year out. She had an instant impact as well since she almost found the back of the net.

With seconds remaining, Sydney Cummings scored her second goal in as many games, following up her incredible goal against Ayr United. Hayes nearly scored when her header struck the crossbar, but Cummings eventually collected the ball and into the bottom corner.

In the 94th minute, Murphy Agnew, a substitute, scored the game’s last goal after Gallacher selflessly set him up. After making a comeback, LAC chatted with Celtic TV. “The girls have supported me throughout the entire journey since I’ve been out,” the woman stated. I’m really grateful to them for it. We need performances like this heading into important games like (the) Rangers and City, so it gives us a little lift in confidence.

David Haley thought back on his final game leading the Hornets. “It’s great to get nine goals,” he stated. I can’t be too harsh on myself.

We have an abundance of diverse goal scorers and scoring methods. It was fantastic to see that out there today. A busy week is coming up. This Friday’s game versus the (Rangers) is crucial. Elena will begin working with us on Monday, and the girls will get ready as usual. She’ll undoubtedly arrive and have a beneficial effect.

Haley deserves a lot of praise because, despite only playing in two games, he performed admirably when called upon and kept the team on course. For once, I can’t wait for Friday to bring in the Elena era!

And no, Kit Loferski is not sitting on the bench today. Hopefully, we’ll get to see her when we get back to league action on January 28th, if not against the Rangers. Regarding her suitability, nothing has been stated, but we’ll keep you informed as soon as we hear anything new.

We are now three points behind the Rangers, who defeated us 10-0 today, in second place in the SWPL1 standings. Hopefully, the Ghirls can upset our adversaries on Friday at the Excelsior by eliminating them from the Sky Sports Cup.

Tickets for the semi-final matchup with the Rangers may be purchased here. Season passes are accepted for the game. BBC Alba will also broadcast the game. Go to Airdrie and support the boss in her inaugural game, if you can! Hopefully, she can ignite the fans with a strong win to kick off her run.
